Goals for 2018

Happy New Year!

One of my favorite times of year. It feels so refreshing and revitalizing. A fresh start is a beautiful thing. 2016 and 2017 were a total whirlwind and I’m so ready for it to be to over.

The past two years were filled with ups and downs, but I don’t regret a single thing…

*I got to take my first solo trip to Colorado on a writing retreat which completely changed the dynamic of my writing.
*I ended my three year relationship, figured out how to be single again, and have now spent the past 11 months with a new man in my life.
*I took another trip to Honduras with Habitat for Humanity and had one of the best weeks of my life while I was there.
*I finally finished my second book and have started to work on my third.
*The dynamic of my immediate family has changed.
*I’ve moved once in 2016, again in 2017, and expect another 1-2 moves in 2018.
*I left two jobs during the year, found a third, and was transferred to a new location almost immediately.
*I’m building my editing, writing, and blogging businesses.
*I met some of the most incredible people and have built up my friendships from simple relationships to close bonds.
*On the other end of that, I also had quite a few people who ended up stabbing me in the back.
*After all these years, I finally got to go back to Mackinac.
*My family lost one of the most incredible men I will ever have the privilege to meet. He was the smartest, yet most humble man that every man should aspire to be like.
*We got our newest little puppy, Coby.
*And most importantly, I learned a really important lesson one year ago. As we were leaving my Uncle’s service and my family was saying their goodbyes, there were a lot of tears, a lot of hugs, and a lot of promises being made. The promise that family, and for many of us, God, will be the number one priority. We promised that this year, we will make sure to spend more time together as a family because life is too short to miss out on this moments and it is far too precious to not truly experience.

Every year has it’s ups and downs, but as I said, I don’t regret a single thing. Every person that is brought into our lives and every little thing that happens to us, whether it’s good or bad, happens to teach us a lesson and make us stronger.

Because of all of these things, I no longer settle for less in any aspect of my life and I go after what I deserve, but through all of that I’ve also learned to give second chances, to forgive those who have hurt me and to take care of myself first. You can never be the best for those around you if you aren’t the best for yourself.

If you know me, you know that I love setting goals and knocking them out! What better day than today? 2016 and 2017 were pretty big years for me and I want to make 2018 BIGGER and BETTER!

So here are a few things I’d like to accomplish!

  1. Pay off debt
I have a list of credit cards than I plan to pay off in 2018
  2. Publish Gamble (my second novel) & a third novel
I published my first in 2015 and wasn’t able to pull off a publication in the last two years, but I’ve been writing like crazy and plan to crank them out this year! I’m already writing my third book. Now I just have to work on the publishing process for my second.
  3. Publish 170 blog posts
The growth of my blog is a huge deal to me so I want to keep cranking out the content. I love connecting with people and sharing my journey.
  4. Read 12 books
As a writer, I obviously love reading. I’ve gotten really good about reading almost every single night before bed, but I want to up my reading and finish 12 books this year!
  5. Edit for 50 clients in 2018
I’ve been editing other writer’s books and blogs lately and it’s an awesome side job. I really want to work on building my portfolio this year.
  6. Write something every single day
I used to make myself write a certain number of words daily, but I found that I felt more inspired when my focus changed from the number of words to the actual quality of the words. Now, I don’t care if I write 10 words in a day or 5,000 as long as I write and add value to my project.
  7. Create new healthy habits
Normally my goal would be “reach my goal weight” but not I’m more focused on creating healthy habits that will get me there. Personally, I need to focus on the smaller goals instead of a such a large goal. One day at a time.
  8. Write & publish my Anxiety Bible
This is a project I hope to share with my readers this year. More about this later!
  9. Have 5,000 Instagram followers & 3,000 Twitter followers
I want to reach more people and connect with others like me! There really is power in numbers.
  10. Have 500 people join Willful Writers
I started a writing group on Facebook for fellow writers and authors. I hope to expand the community to create a supportive, positive place for writers.
  11. Have 500 Pinterest followers
    Well, who doesn’t love Pinterest?

I have a quite a few other goals I’d like to accomplish this year regarding my finances, my business (writing, editing, and blogging), and my personal life. I just figure you can never have too many!
